TOP 10 PHYSICIAN GROUP MEDICARE FEES

Over the past years, there has been a shift in the healthcare system. Fortunately, everyone has experienced the changes caused by this shift and is gradually becoming a part of it. The number of turmoil and situations that the healthcare system has faced has necessitated a long-lasting solution to the situation. Today, there are lots of physician groups that promote care.  Physician group is simply referred to as a group of physicians that come together and start an organization with the motive of providing care to people.

The American Physician Group (APG) notes that there are over 335 physician groups in the country. These groups are responsible for creating suitable means of attending to the health needs of individuals. There are about 17,000 physicians present in these 335 physician groups. As a physician, you can decide to go for solo practice. This means that you become responsible for all the activities that go on in your office. Solo physicians do not work with other physicians as an organization. Rather, they operate alone and discharge their duties with little or no effort. However, this is not the case for a physician group. Physician groups understand the importance of team and as such each physician contribute immensely towards the development of the group through conscious effort.

Physician groups are largely made up of hospitals and other independent associations. To these effect, organizations can come together and put up a system that integrates various aspect of the medical structure. In the healthcare industry, physicians are increasingly becoming aware of the strength they yield in togetherness. They are accepting the fact that there is no security when they give up their practices for various reasons. Instead, they give up their personal interests and align with various professionals to achieve a common goal.

Various types of physician groups have been identified and they are categorized based on ownership, physician control and the level of decision making. The types of various physician groups are:

The physician group joined together: The pressures that are introduced by managed care has made some physicians turn to entities for help in securing contracts for managed care. In return, these physicians asked to retain their autonomy and still exude ownership. It is easy to create this type of physician group but they lack negotiating power as they are loosely created. This is why most physicians find it easy to enter or exit such structures since there are no stringent measures in place.

The physician group created through acquisition: It is no surprise that hospitals and IDS purchase other hospital system. The desire to purchase these organizations is fuelled by the need to strengthen their patients base and source for specialist. Unfortunately, hospitals that are in the habit of purchasing other hospitals have found it difficult to manage the structure because of an increased operating cost. Another disadvantage of this form of association is that the physician group is unaware of the differences in the operational methods of the different hospitals. Aligning with a hospital does not assure any form of security and the outcome of the relationship remains uncertain.

Physician activities managed by PPMCs: This system offered physicians access to capital and reduced the administrative burden of physicians. Sadly, it could not secure the future of the physicians. The geographical disparity that is found in this relationship makes it difficult for payers to be paid.

All of these are models of physician group that have been introduced in the healthcare industry. While they all seem to be a viable option, they have showed signs of distress and affected the operations of physicians in the industry. To this effect, it is clear that physician-owned groups still remain the most suitable option. This is so because it takes into consideration the needs of the patients and the physicians. In addition, it also gives physicians the ability to play active role in practice management and other aspects of the organization. The old models of physician group are not concerned about providing quality patient care at an affordable rate. Rather, the emphasis is on how to make money through such platforms and this is not ideal for the healthcare industry.
